Let’s Get Ready to ROAR!
Reimagine Orientation, Advising & Registration, our new student orientation.
As an admitted student to A&M-Commerce, ROAR is an important step in your enrollment process and is mandatory for all new incoming students.
Unleash your inner Lion with ROAR! Our flexible (virtual or in-person) orientation equips new students for success at A&M-Commerce. Dive into campus resources, navigate support systems, and prepare to thrive!
Check out the agendas below to see in detail all the areas we'll cover and what information you'll be learning while participating in your ROAR!
Sessions
Session Agenda
- ROAR Kick-Off – Get excited about your upcoming attendance at A&M-Commerce! Campus information and traditions will be covered during this session.
- Residential Living and Learning (RLL) – A representative from RLL will go through campus housing options and other important information related to your housing needs.
- Campus Health and Safety – A representative from our Student Health Center and University Police Department will go over some key facts and information.
- Bacterial Meningitis Requirements – Information regarding bacterial meningitis requirements and how to upload your records will be covered during this session.
- Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSI) – Important information for students regarding TSI will be covered.
Session 2
- Financial Aid & Scholarships – Hear important information from our Financial Aid office about what you need to have done and learn more about other educational funding opportunities.
- Student Accounts – A representative from our student accounts. This portion will cover important information related to student billing and student accounts.
- Academic Advising – A representative from our academic advising group will review important information about registering for classes and other related topics.
Session 3
- Academic Support Services– Learn about all the excellent resources our students have available to them to help support academic success. Speakers will cover areas such as:
- The Writing Center
- Tutoring
- TRIO
- Velma K. Waters Library
- Student Services– TAMUC offers our students a wide array of support services. During this session, you will learn about many areas, such as:
- Student Disability Services
- Campus Recreation
- Career Development
- Counseling Center
Session 4
- Lion Card (University ID) – Learn how to get your student ID. You can upload everything online and then when you arrive on campus, you'll be able to go to the Lion Card Office and they’ll have your ID ready.
- Question & Answer – This will be a great time to ask questions that have not been answered yet. We will do our best to answer any remaining questions we can answer or connect you to the departments that can assist.

- Save Your Invite: Keep the email or calendar invite with the event link.
- Use the Right Platform: Remember, the event is on Accelevents, not Zoom.
- Click the Link at Event Time: The event link in your email works only when the event starts.

Session Agenda
Academic Success: Learn about all the resources you have at your fingertips to be successful as a student at Texas A&M-Commerce. Hear from Advising, Academic Success, The Writing Center, and Library Services. This is an excellent introduction to great people who want you to be successful here at TAMUC!
Campus Health and Safety: Learn about the health, safety, and security provided to our students at TAMUC. Health and safety are a significant priority for our campus. Hear from the University Police Department (UPD), Student Health Services, and our Counseling Center.
Money Matters: Money Matters will focus on the financial side of being a student. Hear from Financial Aid and Student Accounts and get greater detail on what to expect from these areas.
Living On Campus: Living on campus? Want to live on campus? This session will cover the details of living on campus and meal plans. Hear from Residential Living and Learning (RLL) with housing options and insight into what living on campus looks like. Also, find out information regarding meal plans through Sodexo.
Showcase Introductions and Student Engagement: Being a student at A&M-Commerce is fun! Learn about all the exciting and interesting things available to our students on campus and in the classroom.

When ROAR dates are announced, please follow these steps to submit your Summer ROAR reservation:
- Log in to the Student Application Portal using the email address used to submit your application for admission.
- Check your application status and accept your admission offer.
- Select your preferred ROAR session and complete your reservation.
Any student with prior college experience, transferring from a 4-year university, or who graduated from high school over 2 years ago and attending A&M-Commerce as an adult learner student must complete an online orientation. A session link will be sent to your email address.
Students enrolled in our 100% online degree programs and Competency-Based Programs (CBE) are required to complete an online orientation and should contact their advisor to get started: [email protected]
ROAR Frequently Asked Questions
Am I required to attend ROAR?
All freshmen students who are newly attending A&M-Commerce after high school graduation or have earned less than 12 transferrable credit hours from a prior 2-year college experience are required to attend either a virtual or an in-person session. An optional program for parents and families will also be available. Any student with more than 12 transferrable credit hours of prior college experience (after high school graduation) transferring from a 4-year university, or who graduated from high school more than 2 years ago must complete an online orientation.
Are transfer students required to attend ROAR?

How do I sign up for a ROAR session?
Freshman and Transfer students from a 2-year community college or university, once admitted to A&M-Commerce, can reserve a spot for a ROAR session by logging into the Applicant Portal. All other students will receive a link to the online orientation via email.
Is there a cost for ROAR?
ROAR is an important step in your enrollment process at A&M-Commerce and is mandatory for all new incoming students. The fee for ROAR is $100 and assessed to ALL new students without exception, participation, and regardless of what type of session you complete. The ROAR fee posts directly to your student account. If applicable, financial aid can apply to ROAR charges, otherwise, this communication confirms your responsibility for payment of the $100 ROAR fee.
Are parents or family members required to attend ROAR?
No, the Parent and Family Orientation is an optional program that parents and family members may attend if desired.
